Residents are advised to avoid Waipio Valley Road in Honokaa, as the road has been blocked by landslides.
Hawaii County Civil Defense CERT Coordinator Bill Hanson said two landslides over Waipio Valley Road were reported at approximately 7 a.m. No injuries were reported, nor was any damage discovered.
The Department of Public Works is currently working to clear the road to single-lane traffic, Hanson said, although such traffic will be limited to local traffic only. Hanson said a high level of soil saturation throughout the east side of the island has increased the potential for additional landslides.
Hanson said the road should be open for limited traffic soon, and that Civil Defense will provide updates as events progress.
